CPR

1. Check for breathing and bleeding and responsiveness by shouting and tapping the patient
2. Call 911
3. Place the patient on their back
4. Hands centered on the chest, your shoulders directly over your hands, press into chess at least 2 inches for 100 – 120 times
5. per minute and allow chest to return to normal position after each compression
6. Give 2 1-second breaths while tilting the patient’s head so the airway is straight
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until the patient is conscious or help arrives

Stroke

Symptoms: Weakness in the face, arm, or leg especially on one side of the body, trouble speaking, difficulty understanding speech, sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes, and sudden trouble walking.

1. Ask the patient to move face and arm and ask the patient to talk, if you observe symptoms call 911 immediately.
2. If the patient is unconscious perform CPR

Car Accident

1. Alert traffic.
2. Ask patients for assistance, if unconsciously help them.
3. Avoid moving the victim.
4. Check the patient’s airway by putting ear to mouth. Pack clothing or bandages around broken bones and large cuts.

Opiod Overdose

Symptoms: difficulty, walking, talking, staying awake, blue or grey lips or nails, very small pupils, cold and clammy skin, dizziness and confusion, extreme drowsiness, choking, gurgling or snoring sounds, slow, weak or no breathing, inability to wake up, even when shaken or shouted at

1. If Naloxone or Narcan is present press the dose to the patient’s nose and administers it by pressing with the thumb
2. Begin CPR even if you do not have Narcan and if the patient isn’t breathing or is very weak.
3. When emergency services arrive, give the drugs the patient may have taken to them.

Choking

Symptoms: Clutching throat, high-pitched sound, panic, skin or lips turning blue, etc

1. Go behind the patient.
2. Place the leg underneath the legs of the patient.
3. Hug the patient underneath the ribs and make a fist with your dominant hand and put your other hand around the fist.
4. Then thrust your fist into the patient in and up like a j shape.
5. Keep thrusting until the item lodged in the throat comes out or you see the patient return to normal.

Seizure

Symptoms: Temporary confusion, a staring spell, uncontrollable jerking movements of the arms and legs, loss of consciousness or awareness, cognitive or emotional symptoms, such as fear, anxiety or deja vu.

1. Call 911 only if the person has never had a seizure before, the person has difficulty breathing or waking after the seizure, has a health condition, the seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes, the person has another seizure soon after the first one.
2. Keep the patient calm, ease the person to the floor, turn the person to the side to help with breathing, clear the area of anything dangerous and put something soft and flat underneath the patient’s head.
